Journo's here to stay?

Journalism is a profession that is important to a
democratic country because journalists are expected
to inform people in a country about issues of social
importance. Social media on the other hand is just a
platform where people just interact with each other
and sometimes issues that journalist report on break on
the social media platforms and people get the chance to
discuss them

Social Media Vs Journalism

Personally I feel that journo's just can't be replaced by social media because social media is very fickle and most of the time one cannot rely on it 100% because usually the stores don't come from reliable sources. Social media is a platform that allows many people to be anonymous and that is sometimes a really big problem.

A list of a few reasons that make journalist good:

There have recently been many incidents (15) where journalists have been murdered and are also being restricted from publishing or investigating stories because of laws that governments have put in place to stop them from doing so. This basically shows that journalism is a profession that is very much needed because journalists are dedicated to their jobs and risk their lives to get stories

An Al-Jazeera reporter who spent more than a year in an Egyptian prison returned home to Australia, where he was greeted by friends and supporters who had campaigned for his release. (Feb. 4)

  1. My question is do we as public relations practitioners need journalists? I mean this journalists that your praising are using social media channels to get information and that questions their credability dont you think?

    1. PRP's do need journalists and one example that i can make is for press conferences...how else will the news reach print and digital media if there's no one reporting on it
answering your question about whether using social media decreases the credibility of journo's...as human we can never intercept or know when something will happen so from time to time social media will catch on to something before a journo does but its the journo's job to investigate and gather all the facts for the public or for the readers they write content for

  2. Since there are so many social networks I dnt think we still need Journalist because they are slower than social media for example Mgabe fall was trending on social networks before its even Published on Newspapers

    1. I don't understand your logic because it was those very journalists who captured Mugabe's fall
